Established in 2007 by the Global Alliance for Rabies Control (GARC), this day serves as a platform to educate communities, promote vaccination, and reduce the impact of rabies, a disease that still claims tens of thousands of lives each year, particularly in underserved regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"font-size:16px\">Rabies is a viral infection that affects the central nervous system of mammals, including humans. It is most commonly transmitted through the bite of an infected animal, with dogs being responsible for approximately 99% of human rabies cases. Once symptoms begin, rabies is nearly always fatal, making prevention the only effective strategy for controlling the disease.
